i missed the premier episode of motorcycle crash technology on the national geographic channel because i was at bike week! normally, i am not interested in motorcycle crash stuff: too many memories...but this show emphasizes the technological advancements developed to prevent injury-and ultimately death-by motorcycle. must see tv for me:

bike week is over

made it home safely from bike week...fairly uneventful, but saw lots and lots of bikes and a few friends. good times! the ride home was stop and go, but i was able to check out my new shit (a little) on the beltway. old glory installed reinhart tailpipes and the screamin' eagle stage one upgrade.

harley-davidson motorcycles moving pennsylvania factory

i just read on allaboutbikes.com that harley-davidson has narrowed their choice of plant locations to replace the york, pennsylvania facility to two mid-western cities. h-d claims the 230-acre facility is outdated and the workers "inflexible" (read: union). pennsylvania stands to loose 5,000 direct jobs and countless related indirect jobs: wow, like we need to add more unemployed people to the already swollen roll? but harley sales are down 30% and last quarter's profits were down 91%, so something has to be done by management...and i think the strike in 2007 really soured them on their york workforce. despite efforts from pennsylvania governor rendell and a "save our plant ride and rally" earlier this month,
harley is outta there!
sure will miss my annual trek to york's factory open house! sad.

weekend ride

put a little over 300 miles on the new bike this weekend riding with pete from dc to reedville, virginia and back. we hit major storms on the way down friday afternoon for about 30 minutes: thank god for the ferring! once we arrived, the wife cooked us some great grilled shrimp, drank something and we chilled out. did a little fishing in the morning...had a bbq saturday night...ate sunday brunch at buenos nachos. the ride home was perfect and fast. a nice weekend was had by all!

screamin eagle ahdra northwest nationals

the screamin' eagle northwest nationals for the all harley drag racing association (ahdra) championship are being held this weekend, august 22-23 in woodburn, oregon. if you have never seen these bikes run, you should: they are badass! this photo is from dreamweaver's flickr photostream.

headed south

finally got 500 miles on the new bike, so its ready to rip! leaving for the cabin on the northern neck tomorrow with pete. its really hot...august is hot, but i am looking forward to a chill ride south: maybe there will be a bay breeze!
