i thought this electric powered unicycle "the uno wheel motorcycle" was lame until i read the inventor of this 100% green vehicle is just 19: now i think its awesome!

harley-davidson motorcycles moving pennsylvania factory

i just read on allaboutbikes.com that harley-davidson has narrowed their choice of plant locations to replace the york, pennsylvania facility to two mid-western cities. h-d claims the 230-acre facility is outdated and the workers "inflexible" (read: union). pennsylvania stands to loose 5,000 direct jobs and countless related indirect jobs: wow, like we need to add more unemployed people to the already swollen roll? but harley sales are down 30% and last quarter's profits were down 91%, so something has to be done by management...and i think the strike in 2007 really soured them on their york workforce. despite efforts from pennsylvania governor rendell and a "save our plant ride and rally" earlier this month,
harley is outta there!
sure will miss my annual trek to york's factory open house! sad.

weekend ride

put a little over 300 miles on the new bike this weekend riding with pete from dc to reedville, virginia and back. we hit major storms on the way down friday afternoon for about 30 minutes: thank god for the ferring! once we arrived, the wife cooked us some great grilled shrimp, drank something and we chilled out. did a little fishing in the morning...had a bbq saturday night...ate sunday brunch at buenos nachos. the ride home was perfect and fast. a nice weekend was had by all!

finally got 500 miles on the new bike, so its ready to rip! leaving for the cabin on the northern neck tomorrow with pete. its really hot...august is hot, but i am looking forward to a chill ride south: maybe there will be a bay breeze!

bmw enters the motorsport battlefield with the introduction this december of their first real superbike. the s1000rr is a badass poised to compete with honda, kawasaki, yamaha, suzuki and ducati not just horsepower-wise, but price-wise. listed at $13,800, it makes it hard to choose.

blastolene's rocket II debuted at the 2009 grand national roadster show. designer michael leeds won the top award for "best engineered". i don't really get it, though: you sit behind the engine? that's ridiculous! nice design work in the shop...not very practical in the real world. still looks cool!
